Nicky Gocuan immigrated to Edmonton, Canada in 2005. He has over two decades of media experience, covering local and international events.
As a political columnist for the Alberta Filipino Journal, Nicky provided insights into political matters affecting the community. His dedication led him to serve as Press Secretary to the Deputy Premier and Minister of Skilled Trades and Professions, and later to the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction. He further advanced to a role in Stakeholder Relations and Community Outreach in the Office of the Premier.
Nicky also has eight years of operations management experience and spent five years in the security industry, assisting stakeholders in safeguarding their assets and ensuring safety. His efforts and contributions have been recognized with numerous awards.
Nicky served two terms as director of the Secord Community League, actively participating in various community activities. As a proud Edmontonian for the past 19 years, Nicky is passionate about public service and committed to addressing the concerns of the community and constituents.
He is dedicated to ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely, advocating for efficient use of technology to reduce red tape and support businesses, and improving public safety so residents and businesses can navigate and thrive in the city. His focus also includes enhancing basic services such as snow removal, garbage collection, and water maintenance to improve the quality of life in Edmonton.

Recently, we had the privilege to witness the outpouring of anger of the Edmonton Chinatown Community because of the violent crimes happening in their community which claimed the lives of two community members.
While the situation in Alberta has improved from Bad to Better, I hate to be the one saying we are not yet out of the woods and must continue our due diligence in keeping ourselves safe by practicing good hygiene, avoid very crowded space and practice social distancing.
