Recently, a local political blogger made a misleading claim about a photo of me wearing a “DOGE” t-shirt. The blogger suggested the photo was taken on March 13, 2025, and implied political affiliations that are simply untrue. I want to take this opportunity to set the record straight.

That photo was actually taken on December 26, 2024, when I was supporting a newly opened small business here in Edmonton. The shirt was a custom gift from a friend — featuring a playful image of a young dog, the word “DOGE,” the subtitle “Department of Government Efficiency,” and the Alberta flag. It was meant as a lighthearted nod to civic engagement, and it has absolutely no connection to any political figure or movement.
In fact, this photo predates both my decision to run for office and events that are now being unfairly tied to it. It is disappointing to see this image misused to misrepresent my values.
I am a proud Canadian, Albertan, and Edmontonian. This is my home — it’s where I have lived, worked, and raised my family. As a former journalist, community leader, and advocate, I’ve always stood for responsible budgeting and for keeping life affordable for everyone.
While knocking on doors across Ward Nakota Isga, I’ve heard a clear and consistent message: residents want a city government that works more efficiently — one that delivers services faster, cuts through unnecessary red tape, and focuses on the needs of everyday people. That is the kind of leadership I stand for.
I want to be clear: I do not support the extreme political rhetoric we are seeing south of the border, and I reject any attempt to associate me with it.
This campaign is about Edmonton, about our community, and about building a better future together. It’s unfortunate to see dirty politics creeping into our local discourse, but I remain committed to running a campaign rooted in integrity, transparency, and respect for the people of Edmonton.
Sincerely,
Nicky Gocuan
